JRCS First Meeting of Radiation Emergency Medical Care Advisors (FY2018)

The Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) held the FY2018 First Meeting of Radiation Emergency Medical Care Advisors on July 9-10, 2018. In this meeting, Dr. Yoichi Watanabe, President of Japanese Red Cross Fukushima Hospital, gave a presentation titled “Response to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident: Realities and Challenges”.


Partnership Meeting on the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami 2018

The Japanese Red Cross Society held a worldwide conference, “Partnership Meeting on the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami 2018”, over 3 days on February 26-28, 2018 in Tokyo. Attended by approximately 100 participants including 48 individuals from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies abroad, the program included a tour to the three affected prefectures, Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, made on the 27th and the 28th.


JRCS Second Meeting of Radiation Emergency Medical Care Advisors (FY2017)

The Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) held the FY 2017 Second Meeting of Radiation Emergency Medical Care Advisors on December 18-19, 2017. In this meeting, roles and preparedness of each Red Cross hospital were introduced. The Japanese Red Cross (JRC) Fukushima Hospital, the JRC Nagahama Hospital and the JRC Karatsu Hospital made presentations.


JRCS Nuclear Disaster Response Basic Training Sessions
(FY 2017)

The Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) has held the Nuclear Disaster Response Basic Training Sessions (training sessions) since FY 2014 as one of its efforts to strengthen nuclear disaster preparedness, based on the lessons learned from its response to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami as well as Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident. The JRCS divides the country into six operational blocks. Starting from FY 2016, the JRCS decided to organize the training session by each block. In FY 2017, the JRCS held the sessions for the First (Hokkaido and Tohoku), Third (Tokai and Hokuriku) and Fifth (Chugoku and Shikoku) blocks.

The Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) has been organizing and holding the Nuclear Disaster Response Basic Training Sessions for JRCS relief team members, who are physicians, nurses, radiological technologists and administrative staff working at Japanese Red Cross hospitals across the country and JRCS chapter staff. The JRCS divides the country into six operational blocks (zones). Starting from FY 2016, the JRCS decided to organize the training session by each block. This is about the summary of the training for the Fifth Block (Chugoku and Shikoku area) held during 2 days on January 24-25, 2018 at the Matsue Red Cross Hospital of Shimane.
