Search by any given keyword


Type any given keyword in the text box above then click on “Search.” Type several keywords with a space between the keywords, and you can search the content which includes all the keywords (AND search).

Search Functions from Menu Header


Search Contents
Place the mouse pointer (mouse-over) on “Search Contents,” the following search functions will appear.
* Descriptions for each search function are in the lower part of this page. To jump to the descriptions, please click on the link below.

List of Contents (Docs, Videos)
Place the mouse pointer (mouse-over) on “List of the Contents (Docs, Videos),” the list of contents will appear.
Or click on the “List of the Contents (Docs, Videos),” the screen will transition to the List of Contents page for Docs and Videos.

List of Contents (Photos)
Place the mouse pointer (mouse-over) on “List of the Contents (Photos),” the list of contents will appear.
Or click on the “List of the Contents (Photos),” the screen will transition to the List of Contents page for Photos.

Search by using List of the Contents by Subject

You can search the content by using the “List of the Contents by Subject”.

Place the mouse pointer (mouse-over) on “List of the Contents (Docs, Videos),” the list of contents will appear. Then click on any item in the list, the screen will transition to the selected item on the List of Contents page.
Or click on the “List of the Contents (Docs, Videos),” the screen will transition to the List of Contents page for Docs and Videos.

Click on the item, and you will see the search results.
* Lists for documents and videos and for photos are created respectively. By clicking on “Docs, Videos” or “Photos,” you can switch between two lists.

Place the mouse pointer (mouse-over) on “List of the Contents (Photos),” the lists of contents will appear. Then click any item in the list, the screen will transition to the selected item on the List of Contents page.
Or click on the “List of the Contents (Photos),” the screen will transition to the List of Contents page for Photos.

Click on the item, and you will see the search results.
* Lists for documents and videos and for photos are created respectively. By clicking on “Docs, Videos” or “Photos” you can switch between two lists.

Search by Keyword

Click on “Search by Keyword” under “Search Contents,” the screen will transition to “Search by Keyword” where you can search the content by using prepared keywords.

Search by a single keyword:

  • Click on the relevant keyword.
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by more than one keyword:

  • Check the boxes of the relevant keywords.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by Category

Click on “Search by Category” under “Search Contents,” the screen will transition to “Search by Category” where you can search the content by prepared categories.

Search by a single category:

  • Click on the relevant category.
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by more than one category:

  • Check the boxes of the relevant categories.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by Time and Region

Click on “Search by Time and Region” under “Search Contents,” the screen will transition to “Search by Time and Region” where you can search the content by prepared time period and regions.

Search by a single region or period:

  • Click on the relevant region or period. (You can click on map to search by a region.)
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by more than one region and/or period:

  • Check the boxes of the relevant regions and/or periods.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search using Multiple Criteria

Search using Multiple Criteria

Click on “Search using Multiple Criteria” under “Search Contents,” the screen will transition to “Search using Multiple Criteria” where you can search the content by combining several search conditions.

Tapping “Search using Multiple Criteria” will shift the screen to the search section. Advanced search is available here by combining several search conditions.

Search by typing any given keyword:

  • Select a search range from the options “All,” “Title” and “Keywords” of the upper left pull-down menu.
  • Type any given keyword in the input box.
  • If you click on “Add Input Box,” an additional box will appear to allow the users to search by more than one keyword.
  • On another pull-down menu (AND, OR, NOT) on the right side of the input box, the users can specify the search condition of the typed keywords.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.
  • Select a search range from the options “All,” “Title” and “Keywords” of the pull-down menu.
  • Type any given keyword in the input box.
  • If you tap “Add Input Box,” an additional box will appear to allow the users to search by more than one keyword.
  • On another pull-down menu (AND, OR, NOT) on the right side of the input box, the users can specify the search condition of the typed keywords.
  • Tap “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by specifying any given dates:

  • Type “Year” and select any given dates from the “Date” pull-down menu.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.
  • Type “Year” and select any given dates from the “Date” pull-down menu.
  • Tap “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by specifying the Content Number:

  • Type any given Content Number in the search box.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.
  • Type any given Content Number in the search box.
  • Tap “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by Language:

Search by Language:
  • Select the relevant language from the pull-down menu. (Note: The content contained in the Digital Archives is only in Japanese or English at the moment.)
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

  • Tap “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

Search by specifying latitude and longitude:

  • Clicking on “Designate Latitude/Longitude Ranges,” a map will appear.
  • Double-click on the starting point of the relevant area and drag the pin to the end point to specify the area.
  • Click on “Search.”
  • The search results will appear on the screen.

How to browse the search results

The search results show a list of the content searched by specified conditions.

Sorting order

Change the sorting order of the search results:

Left pull-down menu

This menu allows the users to change the sorting order as specified. The following order types are available:

  • Ranking (By access frequency)
  • Title (By alphabetical order)
  • Date (By date according to the metadata time information)
  • Operation Phase (By order of preparedness, response and recovery)
  • Registration Date (By descending order)
  • Ranking (By access frequency)

  • Date (By date according to the metadata time information)
  • Operation Phase (By order of preparedness, response and recovery)

Note: If the number of the search results is over 1,000, the sorting order cannot be changed.

Right pull-down menu

This menu allows the users to change the number of the results shown per page: 20, 50 and 100.

Display Style

Display styles of the search results can be changed.

Display as List

The search results are shown in a list, unless otherwise specified. The list contains title, abstract, author, data provider, field of activities, operation phase and other items. Clicking on “More Details” will shift the screen to the metadata (detailed explanations of the content) page.

Display as Thumbnail

The search results are shown in thumbnails. The thumbnails, title and data provider of the content are displayed. Clicking on the thumbnail will shift the screen to the metadata (detailed explanations of the content) page.

Display on Map

If metadata of the content includes location information, the locations are pinned on a map. Clicking on the pin, a list of the metadata (thumbnail and title) regarding the locations will appear. Clicking on the thumbnail or the text of the list will shift the screen to the metadata (detailed explanations of the content) page.

Display by Date

Content which includes time information in the metadata is chronologically shown along the timeline. Clicking on the text within the timeline, the summary (title, abstract, author, field of the activities, phase of the activities, disaster name, etc.) will appear. Clicking on “More details” will shift the screen to the metadata (detailed explanations of the content) page.

Refine Your Search

Clicking on “Refine Your Search” on the screen of search results will shift the screen to the Advanced Search page where you can refine the search. For how to use Advanced Search, see “Advanced Search.”

Composition of metadata (details of the content)

Composition of metadata (details of the content)

Metadata page provides the following information items:

Title

Title of the content will be displayed.

Thumbnail

Thumbnail of the content will be displayed. The icon on the upper right of the thumbnail varies according to the document types. Clicking on the icon, a content viewer, for example, will be displayed to make it possible to view the content. If the content comes from external websites, the URL is shown in the thumbnail. Clicking the URL, the relevant external website will appear in another tab or window.

Downloading

Clicking on “Download,” the content will be downloaded.

Icons displayed under the “Download” button

If the content contains more than one file, the file icons will be displayed. Clicking on the icons, the relevant file will appear. Clicking on the right or left arrow, other icons will slide to left or right accordingly (if the content contains four files or more).

Abstract

This item is about abstract or summary of the content.

Keyword

This item includes keywords to be used for searching the content.

Parent content

This item will be displayed if the content has parent content. Clicking on the text link will shift the screen to the metadata page of the parent content.

URL of this page

This item is about a URL of the metadata page.

Additional metadata

The content has some other metadata. Clicking on this item, the additional metadata information will appear. Clicking again, the information will disappear.

Table of Contents

If the content is about a manual or a book that is comprised of several chapters and the index data is contained in the metadata, the data will appear when clicking on this item. Clicking again, the information will disappear.

Related Contents

If the content has related contents in the Digital Archives, this area is displayed on the metadata page. Clicking on the icon will switch the screen to the metadata page of the related contents. If the content has six or more pieces of related content in the archives, click the right or left arrow and the icons of other content will come.

Related Contents
Related contents will be displayed. Tapping the text will switch the screen to the metadata page of the related contents.

Browsing of the content


How to browse the content

Downloading the content in the Digital Archives (excluding content of external websites) will allow the users to browse it with relevant applications in their devices. Clicking on the upper right icon of the thumbnail will also enable the users to browse the content by a content viewer application.

Videos

Clicking on the upper right icon of the thumbnail will switch the screen to a content viewer application for replaying the video. Clicking on the video screen, the replay will begin.

Images

Clicking on the upper right icon of the thumbnail will shift the screen to a content viewer application for image. Drag-and-drop action can move the image on the screen.

PDF files

Clicking on the upper right icon of the thumbnail will switch the screen to a content viewer application for PDF. Clicking on the left mouse button will enlarge the PDF file. Clicking on either of the file page corners will enable the users to turn a page.
