Immediately after the onset of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011, the JRCS relief teams and DMATs departed for the affected areas from the Japanese Red Cross Hospitals across Japan. Red Cross volunteer corps supported the affected people at evacuation centers. The selected pictures show the fields where the JRCS responders provided relief activities in Fukushima Prefecture, headquarters of disaster control set up at the JRCS National Headquarters, the Fukushima Chapters and Fukushima Prefecture, and damage of the disaster.

In May 2011, the temporary re-entry program began. This program was for the residents who had lived in the areas whose entry was restricted due to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. The JRCS dispatched its relief teams to entry points for the restricted areas and provided relief activities for some residents who got sick during the re-entry program. The selected pictures show how the JRCS relief team members provided relief activities, and how the residents who were back to the entry points from their re-entry to their homes, and the vehicles from the restricted areas were screened.

 Recovery Aid Activities by the JRCS

Soon after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami occurred, a large amount of donations were sent from people around the world (international donations) via the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to the JRCS. Funded by the international donations, the JRCS provided recovery assistance programs for the affected people.
